His Safe Haven
His Safe Haven was born out of a simple but powerful belief that every child is created with value and made in the image of God.
Today, that vision has become a thriving village. Instead of an institutional orphanage model, His Safe Haven is built around restoring family. Widowed women are welcomed in and given a home, where they care for a group of children as their own. The village is filled with recreated family units.
In addition to homes, the village includes therapy spaces where children receive physical support tailored to their needs. What might seem like small milestones elsewhere, such as sitting up, taking steps, or engaging with others, are celebrated as huge victories here.
And perhaps most importantly, these children are treated as valuable, not defined by their circumstances.
Jesus Loves Me Children’s Center Involvement
Just down the hill, the Jesus Loves Me Children’s Center plays a vital role in supporting the work at His Safe Haven. His Safe Haven is able to meet both physical and medical needs.
Medical staff from JLM regularly connect with His Safe Haven, providing health checks, monitoring conditions, and helping address issues that arise. For children with complex medical needs, access to consistent care can be life-changing.
This proximity and collaboration allow both ministries to do what they do best while strengthening one another.
Reaching Families Before Crisis
One of the most impactful parts of His Safe Haven’s work happens beyond the village itself. Through a weekly outreach program, families from surrounding communities come for support, encouragement, and practical help. Mothers travel from all over to be a part of the outreach program, the longest walk to date was an 8 hour walk for one day! Many arrive overwhelmed, unsure how to care for a child with special needs, and influenced by cultural beliefs that have shaped their understanding.
Instead of judgment, they are met with compassion. They are taught that their child is made in the image of God and not a curse.
The team listens to their stories, shares truth and hope, and walks alongside them. They provide simple therapy training, nutritional support when needed, and most importantly, a new perspective. Parents begin to see their children not as burdens, but as gifts.
Because of this outreach, many children who might have been abandoned are now staying with their families and hearing every week of the creator who made their children. That impact cannot be overstated.
